2016: Communication trends to be aware of

Business communications has taken an exciting developmental trend for 2016. With mobile technology, cloud services, and 4G LTE cellular network that easily support streaming video, business communication has evolved beyond office phones, emails, and letters.

Here are the top trends sweeping the business communication industry:

  1. Mobile devices are the new desk phone

BYOD is now what VoIP was a decade ago. Employees are favoring the ease and simplicity of their smartphones to the obtuse and outdated desk phones. The drive to use smartphone over their clunky office phones is obvious – which is why companies are hastening to develop BYOD-friendly VoIP integration.

  1. Web-based communication tools

Since business communication have become a mobile affair, there has been a subsequent shift towards web-based communication tools as opposed to traditional PBX systems and hardware-based phones.

In this age of global connectivity, businesses can no longer rely on employees having the same communications hardware or working from the same location, so web-based platforms are seeing a surge in adoption.

  1. Unified communications are the new normal

Text, chat, video, file sharing, and screen sharing are the new communication methods du jour, and see no sign of slowing. Phone and email are no longer the fastest communication method.

However, it can sometimes be confusing how to use the many new communication lines, which is why unified communications (in part) has risen so rapidly.

  1. The Internet of Things (IoT) adds devices

One of the largest communication trends for 2016 is the addition of connected devices to the communications landscape. Now, devices will transmit data that employees use during the day so that machines will be more interactive and less base.

  1. Secure communications

As communications shift from analog to digital, greater import has been placed on security. Now that hacking and espionage are concerns, business that use VoIP are turning towards encryption technology such as WebRTC, which offers secure VoIP and unified communications functionality.

Expect to see this trends grow, as none of them are going away anytime soon. What communication trends do you think will be important in 2016? Let us know 🙂
